About Us

The Sunderland Foodbank is a project founded by local churches and community groups, working together towards stopping hunger in our local area. It opened in November 2017 after it was recognised that there was a real need to support those in crisis in the Sunderland area.

Alongside emergency food support, we also provide wider help. FISUCS is present in all of our foodbanks, offering advice and support to help people with the challenges they may be facing.

In 2025, we supported 10,228 people, including 6,883 adults and 3,345 children.

The impact of the foodbank extends far beyond those who receive food parcels. It has also brought together a remarkable community of volunteers and thousands of incredibly generous donors, without whom none of this work would be possible.

“The people at the foodbank were wonderful, they understood and saved us”
